Razer Carcharias

Razer has built itself quite a reputation based on its gaming gear, and for the price, the Carcharias is not bad quality at all. It’s a sturdy headset, with a flip-down microphone that doesn’t seem easily breakable, and big, soft ear cups for comfort.

Frankly, it’s not the best option available in terms of sound quality – explosions in games produced a very slight crackle even on mid-range volumes. However, it seemed to be only loud bangs that caused this issue, so for most gamers it’s not going to be terribly distracting. The frequency response is very average at 20Hz-20kHz, and there’s a bit of noise leakage from the open-style ear cups.

However, despite the reasonable price and relatively good quality – for that price – I do have one major gripe: the headset was loose around my ears when worn with the headband on its shortest setting. I’m not a large person, but I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – not every gamer is a massive man. Not to mention that many people might buy a headset like this one for Skype calling or podcasting, and plenty of those people don’t have giant heads either.

Okay, the Carcharias headset definitely isn’t the best one we’ve tested, quality-wise, but then very few products in our roundup come close to the same affordability.

As long as you’re not a tiny-headed freak like me, the Carcharias will be a comfortable, reasonably good experience at a low-to-mid-range price.
