Preview: Nikon J1

The J1 is the Nikon V1’s slightly smaller and simpler cousin - much the same, minus the V1's electronic viewfinder and plus a small but effective built in flash.

AT A GLANCE

  • Built-in flash
  • Available in Black, White, Red, Silver or Pink

An entry-level alternative to Nikon's V1, without too many major compromises.

The J1 is the Nikon V1’s slightly smaller and simpler cousin. The two cameras look much alike bar the V1’s prominent EVF but the bodies are subtly different and the J1 has a small but effective built in flash. The J1’s 3-inch LCD screen is only a 460k dot type but it’s a good unit nonetheless and other than that, there’s not much missing from the specification and features list. The J1 will be available in Black, White, Red, Silver or Pink with single lens kits starting at $1,129.
