Review: Cyborg M.M.O. 7

The M.M.O. 7 is possibly the most complex mouse I’ve ever seen, and yet the second I got my hands on it at a demo a month ago, I wanted to review it. It just felt so lightweight and comfortable, despite its transformer-styling.

The M.M.O. 7 is possibly the most complex mouse I’ve ever seen, and yet the second I got my hands on it at a demo a month ago, I wanted to review it. It just felt so lightweight and comfortable, despite its transformer-styling.

The positives to the M.M.O. 7 are many. Take, for example, the easy-add weights, which help to balance the mouse to your preferered resistance level. The DPI is also adjustable, so you can perfect the ratio of hand movement to mouse movement ratio.

It has a swag of extra transformer parts that allow you to customise the level of armor-plating on your mouse, as well as how much pinky protection you want. And there are 78 programmable functions via its many, many buttons. It’s frankly mind-boggling how customisable this thing is.

I’m also willing to admit that this mouse very nearly converted me into a mouse-based gamer, when I’ve always been the kind of person to use the most minimal mouse possible for every task. Seriously: I have a two-button trackball for almost all my gaming needs. But the button placement and programmability of this mouse made me want to tweak and fine tune it for Diablo III skills and use it for everything. I never thought I’d be espousing one-handed gaming, but there you go.

But there is a downside, and it’s not just the $270 price. Despite all the customisation, I couldn’t find a way to reduce the overall width of the mouse, and I couldn’t make it comfortable for long stretches of play. It’s not like I have tiny-girl-hands, either, but I could manage no more than two hours at a time. For an MMO mouse, that’s a killer blow. The last thing you want while raiding is a hand cramp.

It’s a sweet mouse, and it has so much customisation that I almost feel guilty saying that it needs one more customisable setting. But my hand demands it.
