Bluetooth connectivity both expands and limits your options with the T12 speakers.
If you’re looking for standard computer speakers – the kind that you don’t remove from your desk unless you absolutely have to – then Creative’s T12 wireless speakers might be right for you. The T12s are particularly difficult to set up, due to the fact that they connect via Bluetooth, and it does limit your options to some extent – you need to make sure your computer has Bluetooth to begin with, or purchase the optional adapter. You can connect non-Bluetooth devices via the 3.5mm audio jack, but the T12s don’t come with the necessary cord.
On the plus side, it also expands the types of devices you can connect – you can link your phone or MP3 player via Bluetooth and have them blast music out of regular computer speakers, all without wires, and surprisingly lag-free.
The frequency response on the T12s is 20Hz – 20kHz, which is actually not too bad for a set of desk speakers. The bass, however, isn’t great, and high notes are definitely cleaner than low ones. On the plus side, you can blast music at full volume without so much as a crackle from the speakers, and when you’re sitting up close the stereo effect is rather nice.
Step back just a foot or two, though, and both instruments and individual notes start to blend together – a lot. The speakers are very directional, so if you’re not sitting with them pointed straight at you, you’re not going to get the best sound quality. Still, for listening to music while at your PC, the T12s will do the job.
