Twitter revamps profile pages, iPad app

Twitter on Tuesday rolled out a new iPad application and revamped its profile pages for consumers and businesses.

The iPad application has been rebuilt "from the ground up" so that it's faster, easier to use and more appealing, the company said.

For example, Twitter messages can be expanded with a single tap to display photos, videos and web page summaries without leaving the main timeline interface.

Meanwhile, profile pages for both individual and business accounts have been redesigned to give users more flexibility to personalise the layout.

Specifically, account holders will now be able to place header photos that will be visible not only on Twitter.com but also on iPad, iPhone and Android devices. The photos can be the users' own or a prebuilt Twitter theme.

They will now also have more control over the image they pick to splash in the background, including the ability to align the image and use its right and left sides to display content.

In addition, the photos section in the profile page will now display the six most recent photos users have uploaded.

As of Tuesday, all Twitter users can trigger the change to the new profile design by uploading new images. Eventually, Twitter will swap in the new design in all profiles.
