Samsung smart TVs to support TVNZ OnDemand

TVNZ and Samsung have signed a deal to bring TVNZ OnDemand content to Samsung smart TVs, Samsung announced today.

TVNZ and Samsung have signed a deal to bring TVNZ OnDemand content to Samsung smart TVs, Samsung announced today.

The content will be delivered through a TVNZ OnDemand app.

“We all know big is best when it comes to content so this partnership provides another good reason to invest in a Samsung Smart TV," said Samsung product manager Todd Selwyn.

The app will come pre-installed on Samsung's ES8000, ES7000 and ES6200 TVs and is also available now to download on smart TVs released in 2011 or later.

TVNZ's general manager of digital media, Tom Cotter, hinted at more deals in the works between TVNZ and Samsung.

“This partnership gives Kiwis another place to watch their favourite shows when they want and is the first of a series of innovations they can expect from TVNZ Ondemand and Samsung in the coming months," he said.

TVNZ said it had 435,000 unique viewers of its TVNZ OnDemand service in the month of November. Shortland Street is particularly popular, and drew 500,000 stream views in that month.

HTML5 Why don't they just use an HTML5 video viewer so everyone can see their content.

HTML5 HTML5 doesn't enable DRM to secure the content. Currently requires an App which is development and due for release in Feb. Tom

This is awesome Sure most of NZ TV and the programs they show are rubbish, but being able to view some of the shows I often miss while at work is going to be awesome, now just need to rip to HTPC :p
