McAfee offers a "condom for your digital life"
McAfee's Social Protection app will add an extra layer of protection to Facebook and social networks
Harley Ogier | Thursday, September 13 2012During the day two keynote of Intel’s 2012 developer forum in San Francisco, McAfee demonstrated its ‘Social Protection’ Facebook app, now in open beta.
The product was demonstrated to allow you to share your photos through Facebook, in a way that allows them to be viewed but not copied, printed, saved or re-shared.
Attempting to right-click copy the image via the web browser resulted in a ‘shower glass’ obscured version of the image, with a McAfee Social Protection logo overlaid. The demonstrator clarified that screenshots would also not work – the traditional method of circumventing ‘no copy’ solutions often implemented in JavaScript.
McAfee’s demonstrator referred to the software as “kinda like a condom for your digital life”, drawing laughter from the audience.
You can join the public beta at http://apps.facebook.com/socialprotection/
