Kiwis, want to get in on US Black Friday deals?

Liking the look of those Windows 8 and Chromebook deals on Amazon.com? Why not try out PreZoom or YouShop?

Liking the look of those Black Friday Windows 8 and Chromebook deals on Amazon.com? How about a nice new DSLR or a pair of nice Sennheiser headphones?

It might be the right time of year to try out PreZoom or YouShop.

Black Friday is a US tradition - the day after Thanksgiving, the sales are on. Smartphones, laptops, tablets, and all kinds of other technologies are up for grabs at very low prices - if you're American. These sales have made Black Friday the biggest shopping day in the US for the past eight years.

But now that Black Friday (which actually falls this Saturday for Kiwis) applies to online stores as well as physical retail stores, New Zealanders can get in on the action too. The problem? If you don't have relatives or friends in the US, it can be a bit harder. Enter YouShop and PreZoom.

We've written about these services before, but felt a gentle reminder was in order given the deals that are likely to be online in the next few days.

PreZoom and YouShop both allow Kiwis to ship items bought in the US to a US address. PreZoom and YouShop assign you a US address to use when shopping -- either in Oregon or Delaware, both sales tax-free states.

What you pay to receive your item depends on the item's weight, so you want to make sure you know what your item weighs before buying - otherwise you might find it's more expensive than buying locally. This especially applies to heavier items like desktops and TVs.

Of course, there are gadgets you might want to buy that just aren't available in New Zealand - the Google Nexus 7 32GB, for example, or the Kindle Fire HD. Pick them up on Black Friday and you might get a sweet deal.
