HTC launches Desire X on Vodafone

The HTC Desire was one off the big game-changing phones when it was released - as far as I was concerned it was the first phone that set down a serious Android challenge to the iPhone's dominance and, along with Samsung's Galaxy S, set the standard for high-end Android phones that followed.

New Zealand never got an official launch of the Desire -- HTC only released Android phones in New Zealand last year - but now we get the Desire X.


It's another 4-inch Android smartphone -- we've seen a number launch since March - with resolution of 800 x 480.

Specifications-wise, it has a dual-core 1GHz processor , with 4GB on-board storage and a handy 768MB RAM. It also features a 5-megapixel camera and Beats Audio sound. Note that Beats headphones aren't supplied, though HTC claims that Beats Audio delivers deep bass and rich sound, with specially tuned profiles if you use Beats headphones.

At 114gm, the Desire X is one of the more lightweight large phones, and it runs Andropid 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It retains the smooth, rounded, comfortable-to-hold design of the original Desire.

HTC has also included Dropbox integration, and you get 25GB storage free for two years with the service.

The Desire X is available exclusively through Vodafone, and can be purchased outright for $599.
