Harley Ogier | Friday, January 13 2012The Global Game Jam is an annual event, where teams of developers get together to produce games in just 48 hours. The event “is open to anyone interested in making games including programmers, artists (2D and 3D), designers, animators, sound artists, musicians and board gamers”. Game development experience is not required, but certainly very useful.
In 2011, 75 local developers produced 15 games over the 48-hour period. PC World reported live from the Auckland event: read about it in our Arcade blog.
This year’s Game Jam will kick off at 5pm on Friday January 27, 2012 and will run through to 5pm Sunday January 29. New Zealand events will be held locally at the Media Design School in Auckland, the University of Waikato in Hamilton, The Bizdojo in Wellington and in Christchurch. The registration process is different for each (and not yet available for Wellington).
More details regarding the local event are available at PlayMaker.org. You'll find the international site for the event, including previous years' games, at GlobalGameJam.org.
