Apple CEO: Expect delays for new thinner iMacs

With the 21.5in iMac due to launch in November, and the 27in iMac launching in December you may be hoping to be in with a chance of getting one of Apple's new thinner iMacs in time for Christmas.

Your chances don't look good.

During the financial results conference call with analysts Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that: "We will have a significant shortage there."

"The iMac will be constrained in a significant way. There will be a short amount of time during the quarter to build them," he said.

The reason for the shortages appears to be connected to the new screen lamination process, first identified as a challenge by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo back in July. Kuo noted that the new screen lamination process for the redesigned iMac is more difficult with the 27in model, and suggested that as a result it would launch 6-8 weeks after the 21.5in option. The larger iMac will indeed launch a month after the 21.5-inch model, notes Apple Insider
