UFB rollout: When will I get fibre? Do I have it already?
Wondering when you're going to be getting ultra-fast broadband in your home?
Siobhan Keogh | Monday, May 21 2012 | 2 CommentsWondering when you're going to be getting ultra-fast broadband in your home? While a handful of areas are already equipped for ultra-fast broadband, rollouts are only just beginning in many of the pilot areas.
Eighty percent of Christchurch's commercial areas are already UFB-enabled, and 24 retailers are now selling fibre to businiesses in the city, Enable Networks announced last week.
On top of that, rollouts have begun in Hawera, Tokoroa, and New Plymouth.
If you're unsure about when you'll have access to fibre in your region, you can check out Chorus' UFB rollout map.
The 'UFB Year 1 and 2' zones, highlighted in purple on the main map, show regions that will be getting fibre to the door by June 2013.
The 'Chorus UFB zones', highlighted in light blue, will be getting fibre as well, although there is no publically available roadmap for when fast broadband will be ready.
If you want to know whether you currently have access to fibre at your address, check out Chorus' service availability tool.
Alternatively, if you're with Orcon, you can check the status of fibre at your address from your internet provider's website. If you're with Vodafone, you can register your interest in UFB.
Of course, even if fibre is available at your address, the homeowner is responsible for in-home wiring.
